Installation of sewage treatment plant at Kingstead Farm
Fonthill Estate employed MJ Abbott Limited to design and install a new sewage treatment plant at Kingstead Farm on its picturesque private estate in rural Wiltshire.
The new sewage treatment plant serves a population equivalent of 44 persons and replaces an old concrete septic tank. It is also designed to provide additional capacity for a proposed new development of domestic dwellings and commercial units.
Carlow Concrete tanks were selected for this application due to the high water table present at the site for the majority of the year. With the concrete tanks weighing in at 9 tonnes each plus the addition of a concrete ring beam on completion, we could be certain that floatation would not occur.
To stabilise the ground during installation a hydraulic trench support was put in place and to maintain a dry excavation a temporary 6” dewatering pump was installed. The plant consists of 2 no 3.1m diameter x 3.0m deep tanks acting as a reception tank and a reactor tank.
The project scope of work comprised:
- Installation of 2 no 3.1m diameter x 3.0m deep concrete tanks
- Hydraulic trench support with M12 trench sheets
- Temporary 6” dewatering pump employed to lower the water table during excavation
- Installation of 130m of 110mm & 160mm uPVC gravity pipework
- Installation of 16 no inspection chambers
- Installation of new GRP control kiosk and electrical control equipment
- Electrical connection works by MJ Abbott electrical engineers to NICEIC standards
- Full commissioning and testing.
