Well, it was definitely worth the wait, and what a way to open the new course at Ingestre Park Golf Club with an unbelievable opening weekend on Saturday 4th May – 3 years to the day when work first started on the new course.
In 2013, it was announced that the proposed path of the new HS2 high speed train was to go through Ingestre Park Golf Club. Fast forward to May 2021 and the club were in a position to reconfigure the course to allow Ingestre Park Golf Club to survive and thrive, with 13 new holes and the upgrading of 5 existing holes. Working with the course architects, International Design Group, MJ Abbott commenced work on the epic task, creating a truly special golf course.
The work involved installing over 30,000 linear metres of drainage pipework on the new and original holes to greens, tees, bunkers and fairways. 17,000 linear metres of HPPE pipework were installed for irrigation, along with 560 sprinklers. The MJ Abbott team stripped and re-spread 75,000 cubic metres of topsoil and filled 100,000 cubic metres of subsoil for shaping the new holes. Approximately 20,000 tonnes of sand, gravel and stone was used for the building of the greens, tees, bunkers and paths.
MJ Abbott was not only proud to be the course construction contractor, but were delighted to sponsor the first competition held, where players were competing for the new ‘2024 Trophy’.
MJ Abbott’s Contracts Director, Steve Briggs, attended the Gala Dinner on Saturday evening, presenting the trophy to the deserving winner with the best net score over the new course at Ingestre Park Golf Club.
Dear Steve
I just wanted to thank you and your team again for everything you have done for Ingestre Park Golf Club. We have had a fantastic opening weekend and have heard nothing but praise from our members for the work of MJ Abbott in turning John Hunt’s design into a stunning golf course. We hope you will keep in touch with your friends at Ingestre and if you are ever in the area and want a game of golf, you know where we are and you will always be very welcome. The 2024 Trophy, so generously donated by MJ Abbott will become an annual reminder for us of our gratitude to you and your team.
Thanks again.
Chris Knight, President, Ingestre Park Golf Club
