New natural turf pitches at Swansea City's training ground
The scope of work included for the construction of two new training pitches on undulating land at Llandarcy. MJ Abbott secured the contract following a successful tender submission. The tender documents were prepared and the work overseen by Jonathan Smith of sports turf consultants GeoTurf.
MJ Abbott carried out the following scope of works:
- Removal of vegetation from topsoil layer
- Strip clean topsoil to full depth and stockpile in a weather protected heap outside of construction areas
- Cut and fill earthworks by the use of laser controlled dozer and box
- Screen topsoil and re-spread onto the graded plateau area
- Installation of primary piped drainage with laterals at 6 metre centres
- Installation of forced sand slits at 1 metre centres
- Installation of manual irrigation system compete with fabrication of mobile tank & pump trailer and design of system to allow for mains connection
- Grade pitch levels, prepare surface and apply fertiliser and seed.
The pitch was handed over to the client following seeding for the client to grow in and maintain. The pitches are used by Swansea City Football Club as training facilities.
