Land drainage design & installation
Good drainage is critical to successful plant growth, whether in the golf, sports, landscape or agricultural environment. Either as part of a construction project or as a stand-alone scheme, MJ Abbott can design and install an effective drainage system to suit the requirements of the existing ground conditions and your budget.
Primary drainage systems
Primary piped land drainage systems form the infrastructure for any subsequent secondary systems by removing ground water through a network of pipes to an outfall.
We offer a full land drainage design service, taking account of factors such as soil type, topography and available outfalls.
System installation is carried out utilising specialist trenching machinery guided by laser level controls. Continuous chain or spinning wheel trenchers are utilised depending on the ground conditions and drain depth requirements. Both trencher types are fitted with soil loading conveyors and low ground pressure tracks or tyres to minimise compaction.
Secondary drainage
Secondary drainage systems intercept surface water and convey it rapidly to the lateral drains of the primary system. This ensures that playing surfaces are usable as soon as possible following heavy rainfall.
Typical secondary drainage operations include sand slitting, gravel/lytag/sand banding and ground breaking. We have developed our own specialist equipment to carry out all of these operations, as well as subsurface aeration and sand top dressing. All equipment is fitted with low ground pressure tyres to ensure minimal compaction to playing surfaces.
Land drainage for agriculture & pipelines
We are very experienced in installing agricultural land drainage, both primary systems and secondary moling and subsoiling operations. We also carry out ditch clearance and construct outfall structures. We have carried out a number of pre- and post-construction drainage schemes in conjunction with the installation of pipelines.
