Installation of pumps and pipework at Charford Manor

The original installation at Charford Manor saw the borehole pump transferring water to 3 no. 500 gallon water storage tanks located in the loft of the Manor House. The sheer weight of the water and the age of the tanks led Mr Harding to contact Adrian Riggs of MJ Abbott Limited  to discuss an alternative solution for water storage and distribution.

MJ Abbott recommended that a new storage tank should be provided at ground level in one of the redundant cattle buildings, and that a twin pump variable speed booster unit should be installed to pressurise the system. New underground pipework was installed from the pumps to connect the supply to the Manor House, and some of the pipelines were re-used with the flows being reversed.

The project comprised:

  • Installation of a new 12,000 litre Precolor pre-insulated water storage tank
  • Installation of a twin pump booster unit with variable speed motor control
  • Installation of a new borehole pump, pump control panel and float switch operation to fill the tank
  • Installation of new underground pipework to Manor House and cottages
  • New electrical refit to pump room incorporating heating, lighting and pump protection
  • Replacement lighting circuits to adjacent cattle barn carried out by our NICEIC qualified electrical engineers
  • Impact moling under farm tracks to install new 50mm MDPE pipework
  • Pressure testing and chlorination of the system on completion.

On successful completion, Mr Harding of Charford Manor commented: “MJ Abbott Limited carried out a first class job as always, and I can sleep better at night knowing that the old tanks are not going to suddenly fall through the ceiling. We now have good water pressure everywhere and multiple outlets can be used at the same time, which was never the case before we had the system upgraded."
