Reconstruction of Molineux Stadium pitch
The scope of work included for the reconstruction of the Molineux Stadium pitch including the periphery areas. The pitch reconstruction work was specified by Mike Harbridge of Professional Sportsturf Design.
MJ Abbott carried out the following scope of works:
- Excavation and removal of existing pitch topsoil layer and break up of surrounding tarmac surfaces and kerbs
- Import fill material to increase the height and position of the pitch
- Installation of primary drainage system, new Rain Bird irrigation system complete with new pump station, and new undersoil heating system
- Import and spread gravel carpet, lower sand layer and upper Fibrelastic rootzone
- Cultivate surface, apply fertiliser at various stages and sow seed
- Construct 3G synthetic grass warm-up strip along eastern pitch length
- Adjust levels and re-tarmac three sides of the pitch perimeter complete with new drainage, 8 no service ducts and new kerbs along the pitch edge
- Installation of new sunken dug-outs and two TV pits along western pitch edge
- Installation of goal post sockets, provide nets and ball stop system
The contract was carried out to a very tight time scale, with the work starting the day after the final match of the Premier League season. The reconstructed pitch was seeded 6 weeks later, allowing time for Head Groundsman Wayne Lumbard to grow in the new pitch before the start of the new season.
While on site at Molineux, MJ Abbott carried out pitch refurbishment to the club's Compton Training Ground in Wolverhampton.
MJ Abbott continues to provide technical support for the irrigation system.
