Replacement irrigation pump control panel for the Marquess' Course
MJ Abbott was approached by John Clarke, the Courses Manager at Woburn Golf Club, to design and install a replacement control panel for the irrigation pump station that supplies water to the Marquess' Course.
The existing Flowtronex control panel was installed in 1999 during the original construction of the course. The pump controller within the existing panel had become obsolete, and with no UK support available, John was concerned about the ongoing reliability of the control panel.
The new control panel was designed and manufactured by MJ Abbott and includes the following features:
- Grundfos CUE variable frequency drives for all three irrigation pumps
- Grundfos CU352 pump controller with a colour LCD display and data logger
- Remote viewing and operation of the pump controller via an integral web server
- Digital flow meter display with resettable totaliser
- GSM alarm system to send SMS messages or e-mails following a fault
- Loss of prime protection system for each pump
- Thermostatically controlled cooling fans and anti-condensation heater
- Surge protection device to suppress transient over currents
- Electronic leak detection system
- Automatic control of the existing lake circulation pump including daylight sensor.
An electronic leak detection system was installed which monitors the number of pump starts and the pump run duration outside of periods where automatic irrigation is taking place. If the number of starts or the run time exceeds adjustable limits, the pump station will either shut down or warn the user via a text message.
The pump control panel was also linked to the existing Rain Bird control system via a new cable zone isolation box.
The pump station itself was fitted with replacement dual-plate non-return valves and a new stainless steel paddle wheel flow meter to complete the upgrade.
