Installation of new irrigation system
MJ Abbott secured the contract to install a new irrigation system at Swinley Forest Golf Club following a tender and interview process. The irrigation design and tender process was undertaken by Roger Davey of Irritech.
The scope of work included:
- 270m³ Vulcan water storage tank complete with new borehole transfer pipework
- 40m³/hr pump station designed and manufactured by MJ Abbott
- Integration of iron removal water treatment system
- Installation of mainlines pipework and replacement irrigation to greens, approaches, greens surrounds, selected fairway areas and tees
- The system utilises Toro irrigation equipment
- The system includes Toro GDC Site Pro control system, weather station and radio remote control.
Stewart Zuill, Secretary of Swinley Forest Golf Club, commented: “Work on the installation started in November 2010 and was programmed to be completed in March 2011. Within a week of coming on site, the worst winter conditions since 1962 set in. During the contract period 16½ days were lost and on many other days working conditions were most unpleasant. It is a credit to Abbotts that the course was ready in time for play in early spring. They were able to use their resources of machinery and manpower to prevent a situation where the work could have dragged on into the summer.”
MJ Abbott continues to maintain the irrigation system.
