Stevenage Football Club, Hertfordshire
Construction of new training ground
Stevenage Football Club contracted MJ Abbott to reconstruct a disused and overgrown former company sportsground into a 10-pitch training centre. Interestingly, the 10 hectare facility had been used in its former existence as a training camp by England's 1966 World Cup winning squad.
MJ Abbott specified and carried out the following scope of works:
- Remove vegetation with Koro Top Maker fraise mower to leave clean topsoil. The vegetation was retained on site in a weatherproof heap. This material will rot down and will be used by the club in the future as topsoil.
- The topsoil surface was shallow rotovated, re-graded to remove minor surface level changes, cultivated and seeded.
- The project also included constructing a Junior Pitch on a sloping piece of ground adjacent to the clubhouse area. This involved stripping topsoil, subsoil cut and fill, topsoil re-spread, cultivation and seeding.
