Construction of natural and synthetic sports facilities

The scope of work included for the construction of 4 no natural turf pitches, cricket square and MUGA. MJ Abbott secured the contract following a successful tender submission to Shepherd Construction.

MJ Abbott carried out the following scope of works:

Natural Turf

  • Removal of vegetation from 5 hectares of existing topsoil
  • Strip clean topsoil to full depth, pass through screener to remove foreign matter and stockpile in a weather protected heap outside of construction areas
  • Cut and fill 33,000m³ of subsoil using laser controlled dozer and excavators to create level plateau areas
  • Primary drainage installation with laterals at 7 metres centres, secondary drainage in the form of forced sand slitting at 1 metre centres to the entire plateau
  • Subsoil de-compaction, topsoil re-spread, cultivations and seeding
  • Installation of cricket square
  • Carry out first year's maintenance regime including grass cutting, spraying and overseeding.

Synthetic Facilities

  • Construction of MUGA comprising tennis/netball courts.
