St John's School, Northwood
Construction of Junior Rugby pitches
The scope of work included for the construction of two new Junior Rugby pitches on steep ground at St John's School. MJ Abbott secured the contract following a successful tender submission.
MJ Abbott carried out the following scope of works:
- Removal of vegetation from topsoil layer
- Strip clean topsoil to full depth and stockpile in a weather protected heap outside of construction areas.
- Cut and fill earthworks using laser controlled dozer and excavators. The two pitches are constructed on a slope, one pitch is cut into the slope and the other is built up at the bottom of the slope
- Replace topsoil, amelioration of 50mm depth of sand into the topsoil, cultivating and seeding
- Installation of primary piped drainage with laterals at 5 metres centres
- Installation of 6 metres deep cut off drainage, constructed into the slope to intersect underground water movement
- Installation of Aquacell water attenuation system which restricts the flow of drainage water into the ditch outfall
- Installation of sand banding to both pitches
- Design and Installation of fully automatic sprinkler system comprising Rain Bird equipment including Site Control PC Controller
- Initial pitch maintenance.
MJ Abbott continues to support and maintain the irrigation system.
