Golf course improvements
Following a competitive tender MJ Abbott Limited was awarded the contract to carry out Phase 1 of the course improvement master-plan at the historic Royal Blackheath Golf Club during the summer of 2015.
Working closely with golf course architect Ken Moodie of Creative Golf Design to a tight schedule, and despite a period of poor weather, the following works were completed:
- Renovation of 6 holes
- Partial reconstruction of the 16th green
- Construction of new tee complexes on the 2nd and 17th holes
- Construction, lining and sanding of 19 new bunkers
- Ditch works, including 35m of new ditch connecting two existing ditches, re-grading and cleaning of existing ditches and a 26m long 300m diameter culvert across the 3rd fairway
- Upgrading irrigation system within working areas to suit new features
- Three large areas of hollows and mounding
- Preparation and turfing or seeding of all working areas.
Phase 2 of the course improvement master-plan is due to take place in August 2016, with the remaining works to be completed in a 3rd phase planned for 2017.
