Construction of new golf course
MJ Abbott secured the golf course construction contract with Shepherd Construction through submission of a competitive tender and interview process.
The course was designed by Marc Westonborg of Hawtree, and the tender process was managed by John Bridges of Hawtree Ltd.
The project involved the following scope of works:
- 86 hectares of site clearance comprising herbicide application, removing selected trees, hedges and fences, and setting up protection for badgers and retained trees
- 174,000m³ of topsoil strip and stockpiled in weather proofed heaps
- 1,000,000m³ of cut and fill earthworks to create 18 hole golf course
- Construction of greens, tees, fairways and bunker complexes.
- Installation of primary drainage and fully automatic irrigation systems to all golf areas
- Installation of electric cables and service ducting
- Construction of 1,700 metres of cart paths
- Construction of new feature lakes and wetlands including retaining walls to lake edges
- Construction of irrigation reservoir, water transfer systems and aeration
- Re-spread topsoil, cultivate and seed fine turf and grassland areas
- Construction of cart paths, tree and reed planting
- 12 months golf course maintenance.
