Reconstruction of natural sports pitch

MJ Abbott successfully tendered for the works and started the sports pitch reconstruction project at Ford Lane Recreation Ground for clients Ferndown Town Council in April 2012. The scope of work included the re-levelling of an existing undulating area to be used for football. The total area of work was 7,000m².

The project comprised the following scope of works carried out in accordance with the specification produced by Richard Earl of TGMS:

  • Stripping of vegetation from topsoil by the use of a Koro Field Top Maker
  • Stripping of topsoil clean and to full depth
  • Cut and fill subsoil cut to required levels
  • Replace topsoil to consolidated depth of 300mm
  • Installation of main and cut-off drainage
  • Installation of lateral drainage at 3.0 metre centres across the plateau, linking in to main drainage
  • Koro and drainage arisings utilised to create feature mounding for BMX track
  • Topsoil preparation and seeding.

The pitch is being maintained under contract, involving grass cutting, rolling, various fertiliser applications, installation of sand grooves and sand topdressing.
