Primary and secondary drainage to new racecourse

MJ Abbott successfully tendered the contract to install primary and secondary drainage within the new race track. The racecourse was developed and is run by the Walters Group. The drainage scheme was designed by John Hacker of PSD.

MJ Abbott carried out the following scope of work:

  • Installation of 25,000 linear metres of 80mm diameter lateral pipework at 7 metre centres
  • Installation of 3,500 linear metres of mainlines pipework. Mainlines pipework sizes range from 125mm to 300mm diameter twinwall pipes
  • All drainage water is directed to the on-site Irrigation lake
  • Installation of 80,000 linear metres of sand slitting, measuring 65mm wide x 250mm deep at 2 metre centres around the entire track.

David Thursfield, Director of Ffos Las Ltd and Walters Group commented: “Please accept my thanks for the excellent work by all concerned and particularly the commitment to the project by MJ Abbott on track drainage and irrigation. They have fulfilled their mandate with professionalism and dedication.”

Concurrently with the drainage project, MJ Abbott also installed the new irrigation system at Ffos Las. To read more about the irrigation project, follow this link.
