Construction of natural turf sports facilities
MJ Abbott successfully tendered the project for BAM Construction Ltd. The project started in July 2012. The scope of work involved the construction of natural sports facilities for the new academy. The total area of work was 25,000m².
The project comprised the following scope of works carried out in accordance with the specification produced by Richard Earl of TGMS:
- Laser-grade topsoil plateau to establish designed levels
- De-compaction and stone picking operations
- Installation of main and cut-off drainage complete with hydro-brake chamber outfall
- Installation of lateral drainage at 4.5 metre centres across the plateau, linking into main drainage
- Application of 30mm depth of sand and amelioration into topsoil
- Topsoil preparation and seeding
- Natural cricket square construction.
The pitch is being maintained under contract, involving grass cutting, rolling, various fertiliser applications, installation of sand grooves and sand topdressing.
