Installation of new irrigation system
MJ Abbott secured the work following a successful tender process. The irrigation system replacement formed part of the new grandstand project and straight mile realignment project. The irrigation design and project consultancy was carried out by STRI.
The scope of work included:
- Design, fabrication and installation of 200m³/hr pump station
- Renewal of pipework and valves from the retained diesel backup pump station
- Refurbishment of existing pumphouse and filter chamber, complete with new abstraction and suction pipework from Round Pond water reservoir
- Drain down and clearing out of Round Pond
- Installation of 2,500 linear metres of 180mm mainlines pipework and 11,000 linear metres of 90mm lateral pipework. All pipework installed in trenches and with turf strip/replace and and sand backfill/surround where applicable to existing turf areas
- Installation of automatic sprinkler system to the Flat Course featuring Rain Bird equipment
- Installation of fire hydrants for boom irrigation to the National Hunt Course with sprinkler irrigation to landing areas
- Installation of Rain Bird Site Control controller, weather station and radio remote control.
MJ Abbott continues to maintain the irrigation system.
