Wolverhampton Wanderers invest in new state of the art pitch at Molineux

MJ Abbott Limited has secured the contract to reconstruct the Molineux stadium pitch for Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.

Work is well underway on the project which involves removing 300mm depth of topsoil from the existing surface, importing 1,000m³ of material to increase pitch levels and the installation of full drainage, irrigation and undersoil heating systems. MJ Abbott will then import and construct the 450mm pitch build up comprising of a gravel carpet, lower rootzone and Fibrelastic upper rootzone before cultivating and seeding.

There will also be an overhaul to the pitch surround areas incorporating new ducting, kerbs, tarmac surfacing and a new 3G synthetic turf warm-up surface along one side.

The contract also includes for the re-construction of the first team training pitch at the Premiership side's Compton Training Ground.

The project has been designed and will be overseen by consultant Mike Harbridge of Professional Sportsturf Design (PSD).
