MJ Abbott making good progress at Close House
Leading UK golf course construction expert MJ Abbott is making good progress on its latest reconstruction project, the Lee Westwood Filly Course at Close House, near Newcastle upon Tyne.
The works include the reconstruction of two greens complexes, the addition of new water features, the reconstruction of the majority of bunkers and the addition of new bunkers to bring the course more into line with the Colt Course, which was also constructed by MJ Abbott in 2009/10. Further works include the addition of feature mounding and new or extended tees.
The reconstruction work is being directed and supervised by golf course architect Scott Macpherson of Turner Macpherson Golf Design, with input from Lee Westwood, Attached Tour Professional at Close House.
Lee Westwood commented: “Working with Scott (Macpherson) has allowed me to put my stamp on the courses. The Lee Westwood Filly Course is undergoing an extensive refurbishment and it is a very enjoyable course. The Lee Westwood Colt Course is also being enhanced with the construction of new tees on the 8th hole and an extension of the water around the 18th, making it a great signature hole. I am sure everyone who plays the courses will want to come back time and time again.”
The works are due to be completed in early June to allow for a 1st July 2013 opening by Attached Tour Professional Lee Westwood.
