MJ Abbott exhibiting at relaunched Yeovil Show

MJ Abbott are exhibiting at this weekend's Yeovil Show, the first agricultural show organised by the Yeovil Agricultural Society at Yeovil Showground since the late 1960s.

Formed over 150 years ago the Yeovil Agricultural Society held the annual Yeovil Show on the first Thursday in September at the Yeovil Showground (previously known as Barwick Park). The Show was a highlight of the year for many Yeovil residents and billed as 'the biggest one day agricultural show in the country'! Highlights included the parade of champions, classes for butter and cheese plus a prestigious dog show.

The Show continued for many years until the late 1960s. The reasons behind its demise are unclear but it is thought that two wet years combined with the arrival of the Bath & West Show at Shepton Mallet Showground meant the Yeovil Show Committee decided to throw their lot in with Bath & West and the Yeovil Show shut up shop.

Over the subsequent years the Yeovil Agricultural Society retained its ownership of the Yeovil Showground and rented it out to various events including the Yeovil Festival of Transport, Abbey Hill Steam Rally, Aldon Horse Trials, Lions Club Fireworks Display and the Truck Fest. In the 1980s the Mid Western Agricultural Society held five 'Yeovil Shows' at the Showground and enjoyed some great Shows with good competition entries.

The relaunched Show takes place on the weekend of Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July, and MJ Abbott will be using their state-of-the-art Towmaster exhibition trailer to give visitors to the stand the opportunity to have a cup of coffee and discuss our extensive product range for farmers, contractors and self-builders in comfort.

Nigel Pritchard and his team will be ready to welcome you to MJ Abbott's Stand D23 on Avenue D from 9 a.m. each day. We look forward to seeing you.
