Millwall FC upgrades stadium pitch at The Den
Sports turf specialists MJ Abbott have carried out the first full reconstruction on the stadium pitch at Millwall Football Club's The Den since 1993, providing a new SISGrass hybrid turf pitch for the start of the 2021-2022 season.
Gravel layer installation
The six-figure project had been signed off to commence last summer before plans were postponed after the season had been paused as the UK dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic.
MJ Abbott carried out a full reconstruction of the pitch, comprising:
- Excavation and disposal of 450mm depth from existing pitch area
- Cut and fill earthworks to create sub base and new pitch levels
- Installation of drainage, irrigation and undersoil heating systems
- Import and spread new gravel raft, lower sand and upper rootzone layers
- Preparation and seeding of pitch surface
- Installation of SISGrass hybrid pitch reinforcement system
