Project summary
New championship golf course at London's country retreat
MJ Abbott secured the golf course construction work following submission of a competitive tender. Additional hotel and landscaping work was negotiated during the course of the contract directly with the client.
The course was designed by Kyle Phillips.
The scope of work included:
- Construction of 18 hole golf course, driving range and practice facility to full USGA specification from site clearance through to preparation and seeding
- Design and installation of primary drainage and automatic irrigation system following final shaping of earthworks
- Construction of cart path system around the golf course and estate
- Construction of landscape within the walled garden including swimming pool earthworks, artificial tennis court, croquet lawn and later beach volley ball court
- Construction of natural grass football pitch complete with drainage and irrigation
- Formal lawns and landscape areas within hotel grounds.
In subsequent years MJ Abbott has carried out additional works at The Grove and extensive landscaping works at The Runnymede Hotel, which is in the same ownership.
The Grove hosted the WGC American Express Championship in 2006, and the British Masters in 2016.
