Construction of reinforced parking area

IGD Services Ltd, Hertfordshire

Project summary

Golpla reinforced car parking area

IGD Services Ltd, the operating company of the Institute of Grocery Distribution, requested a quotation for the installation of a Golpla reinforced car park comprising of the fastlay system and full sub-base construction for an overflow parking area at their main office in Watford.

MJ Abbott priced for a design prepared by the consultants Rumball Sedgwick. The parking bays were laid with pre-grown Golpla tiles, and the Golpla tiles were filled with gravel for the main access road.

Due to vehicle movements, the main access road was constructed on a full Type 3 sub-base to ensure it will withstand the regular vehicle movements to the parking areas.

The scope of works included:

  • Rotovation and stripping of 400m² working area within existing grass and stripping of 400m² existing track sub base
  • The bases for each area were then trimmed where possible to remove localised depressions whilst ensuring the area will tie in neatly with the surrounding areas and not damage tree roots
  • Due to the no dig requirements of the site, the parking bays were specified as the fastlay system, which includes a fastlay uPVC geogrid, sand blinding layer and pre-grown Golpla tiles to the individual parking bays
  • The main access and thoroughfare consisted of Golpla tiles filled with gravel laid on a compacted 150mm deep Type 3 sub-base blinded with grit sand
  • The parking bays were marked and the perimeter defined by the installation of removable timber posts.
