Reactive Works Coordinator/Estimator - Water & Drainage

We are looking to recruit an experienced coordinator to manage the day to day works and reactive planning of our busy water and wastewater department.

Principal Responsibilities

  • To organise and manage the day to day, reactive aspect of the water and civil engineering department. Reacting to failures of existing water system (borehole/water mains and water & foul water networks, pumps and water treatment systems.) Estimating for the repairs and installation of new systems. Being responsible for scheduling staff, machinery and transport to efficiently and economically repair our existing and new clients’ systems.
  • You will work with existing team structures, coordinating effective management, whilst always promoting the health and safety of each project along with the corporate image of MJ Abbott Ltd as an industry professional.
  • 80% of your time will be based in the office managing day to day water, pumping water, water supply and sewage enquiries. The other 20% will be spent managing smaller local projects including site visits, client liaisons and estimating of projects.
  • Manage and supervise team members to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and performance standards. Provide guidance and support to staff, fostering accountability and adherence to organisational expectations.
  • Ensure company vehicles and plant are properly maintained, cleaned, and used safely. Oversee record-keeping, security measures, timely reporting of defects, and coordination of hired equipment, while promoting compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Attend management meetings, maintain regular contact with the Operations Manager, and liaise with the Contracts team to support tendering. Participate in relevant training and remain flexible to work across different areas of the business as required.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the team and organisational objectives.

Essential Qualities

  • Previous supervisory experience gained in areas relevant to the role offered.
  • Proven experience in staff management, including monitoring adherence to policies and maintaining high performance standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Highly motivated.
  • Ability to work speedily and accurately within budgeted plans.
  • Strong prioritisation skills and able to work to strict deadlines.
  • A clear understanding of Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and CDM Regulations.
  • Excellent timekeeping, with the ability to manage a wide range of activities, often under pressure.
  • Highly motivated and able to work within a team structure.
  • Car driver with a full UK driving licence.
  • Fit and capable with the ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Flexible, positive and willing to go the extra mile to achieve results.
  • Fully computer literate – experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) & Internet Explorer.
