Meet the team
Adrian heads our sales team, specialising in sales of amenity products to golf courses and other leisure industry users.
Adrian’s other main role is to ensure all our installations operate correctly, with involvement at both the design and commissioning stage. He also supervises technical aspects of our workshop and electrical departments, and procures our plant and vehicles.
Adrian is our Health and Safety Director, and holds the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety.
Adrian joined the company after attending Rycotewood College in Oxfordshire and a short period working for a plant hire firm. He has over 25 years experience in the business.

Jonathan heads the senior management team in setting the overall strategy for the business, and making sure we stay ahead of the field in all the market sectors in which we operate.
Jonathan joined the company in 1990 after studying engineering at university, and completed his MBA by distance learning while juggling responsibilities for a young family and managing the company’s accounting and finance functions.
Jonathan was appointed as Managing Director in 2006, on the retirement from day-to-day operations of our founder, Michael Abbott.

Simon is a key member of our sales team. He is based mainly in our busy Sales Office in Dinton, and is the customer's first point of contact for many sales enquiries.
Simon has been with the company for 6 years, and moved across to the sales team at the end of 2013. His previous role in our busy stores department enabled Simon to build up extensive knowledge of our huge range of products, which means he is very well-placed to give customers the best sales advice.
In his spare time Simon is a keen car enthusiast, and usually has at least one re-build project on the go, although his young family also keeps him very busy.

Steve heads our contracts team, and has extensive experience of the golf construction industry.
Steve has been with us since our first forays into the golf market back in the mid 1990s, and has been instrumental in our development into the UK’s leading golf construction company.
Steve is a keen golfer and only wishes he had more time to take advantage of the opportunities which arise when we work on some of the UK’s finest golf courses.
Steve was appointed as a director in March 2010.

Ben is our hands-on Workshop Manager, and along with his team is responsible for keeping our extensive fleet of plant, machinery and vehicles at work or on the road.
Ben has been with us for more than 18 years, so knows our plant and machinery intimately and in the event of a breakdown is always able to come up with a solution to get the machine back to work as soon as possible.

Neil is Product Manager in our sales team, and is also our pumps guru.
Neil has been with the company for 20 years, and has wide experience across a huge range of products in the water and irrigation industries.
One of Neil’s roles is to maintain the product and pricing information across our systems, to ensure that customers always get the best possible prices. He also takes responsibility for maintaining our IT systems.

Ray is our Stores Manager, and takes responsibility for this very important department which both supports our project teams and ensures products are always available when customers want them.
Our stores department stocks a huge range of products, and Ray ensures that we hold the correct levels of stock to support the business effectively.
Ray and his team serve customers at our busy Trade Counter and also ensure that our Dinton base is kept in top condition.

Nathan is a senior Contracts Manager in our contracts team, with main responsibility for sports turf, irrigation and drainage projects.
Nathan joined our drawing office in 1994 at the tender age of 21, and has assumed prime responsibility for irrigation and drainage system design within the business.
Nathan also takes responsibility for our marketing, ensuring that our customers are kept up to date with progress on our projects.

Cherry is our Accounts Manager, with primary responsibility for purchase ledger and payroll.
Cherry has been with the company for 17 years and so has established good relationships with the credit control departments of our suppliers, working with them to resolve queries quickly and efficiently. This, combined with operating a weekly payroll for nearly a hundred employees, keeps her very busy!

Graham is a Contracts Manager in our contracts team, mainly dealing with golf, sports, drainage and landscaping projects.
Graham started out as an assistant in our drawing office 12 years ago. He has a great aptitude for assimilating the latest technology, and has been instrumental in introducing satellite-assisted surveying and setting-out techniques to our operations.

Paul is Assistant Contracts Manager in our water and civil engineering departments, with prime responsibility for managing our team of water and electrical engineers to carry out routine servicing and attend to breakdowns. Paul also manages our team of drainage engineers.
Paul joined the company almost 9 years ago, and gained experience in our drawing office before taking on his latest role.

Andrew is our Finance Director, with responsibility for overseeing our busy accounts department and the financial management of the business.
Andrew joined the company 10 years ago, after qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant while working in the defence technology industry.
Andrew is an expert on spreadsheets, management reports and accounting systems, and has project managed the implementation of fully integrated e-commerce web sites for both MJ Abbott and our subsidiary company.
Andrew was appointed as a director in December 2014.

Pete is a Surveyor/CAD Technician in our contracts team. He joined us in the spring of 2014 from a local surveying practice, where he gained extensive experience in site surveys using a variety of different surveying techniques.
Pete is responsible for the accurate setting out and collection of "as-built" information on projects, and preparing "as-built" plans. He also works in the Drawing Office carrying out service searches as part of our pre-contract process, assisting the contracts team to prepare estimates, and providing post-contract information to our clients and their consultants.

Jim is a Contracts Manager in our contracts team, with a main focus on the operational management of irrigation and drainage projects.
Jim joined us as a site supervisor 13 years ago, and has quickly progressed to become an indispensible member of the contracts team.
Jim ensures that irrigation and drainage projects are completed accurately, to programme and to the customer’s complete satisfaction – no mean feat when you realise he may be looking after up to ten projects at the same time!

Nigel has two main roles – he is responsible for our procurement of products and materials, and he is also in charge of our direct sales division.
Nigel joined us in 2008 to set up our direct sales operation, after a long career with a large national pipe and drainage products distributor.
Nigel is well known for his infectious enthusiasm, and he will always put the customer’s requirements first no matter what obstacles our suppliers may put in his way!

Mick is in charge of day-to-day operations across the company, a role he first fulfilled as Operations Manager on the retirement of Michael Abbott in 2005.
Mick has been with the company for nearly 16 years, starting out as Site Manager on one of our most prestigious projects, construction of the new golf course at The Grove in Hertfordshire.
Besides his operational duties, Mick also manages health and safety across the company on a day-to-day basis, and holds the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety.
Mick was appointed as a director in March 2010.

Adrian is Contracts Manager in our water and civil engineering departments, with prime responsibility for design, management and coordination of our local contracts while also providing technical assistance to help resolve breakdowns.
Adrian has been with the company for 18 years, starting out on site and then moving into the drawing office and now contracts management, a role he has fulfilled for the past 10 years.
Over the past few years our water and civil engineering divisions have been growing steadily, due in no short measure to Adrian’s enthusiasm and desire to give outstanding service to his customers.

Jules' principal role is running our contracts office, giving secretarial, administrative and managerial support to the contracts team.
Jules joined us in 2010, from a long-standing role as Office Manager in the local office of a national construction firm. They re-located, and Jules came to work for MJ Abbott – which was a much better outcome for us than them!
Jules ensures that our contracts team get their estimates and tenders completed on time, which is a vital role in securing our pipeline of future contracts.
In her role as Office Manager, Jules is responsible for a wide range of support functions within the office.

Simon is a keen runner, and can often be found pounding the local pavements in training for his next race!
