Folkestone Rugby Club
June 2007 saw the completion of another successful project for Total Turf Solutions at Folkestone Rugby Club in Kent. The work comprised of the construction of one new pitch, the re-levelling of two existing pitches and the installation of primary and secondary drainage systems. The pitches were cultivated and seeded and are being maintained by MJ Abbott Limited for 12 months.
Knowle Village - Portsmouth
Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd contacted MJ Abbott Limited to assist with specifications and prepare budgets for the construction of sports facilities at the impressive Knowle Village housing development. The first phase included the construction of two junior football pitches and a cricket square. The work involved subsoil laser levelling, topsoil spreading, primary drainage, cultivation and seeding. The company will maintain the areas for 12 months which will include a secondary drainage installation.
Merchants Academy - Bristol
MJ Abbott Limited were contacted by Cowlin Construction to prepare specifications and budgets for the sports facilities at the new independent Merchants Academy School in Bristol. The school is still in construction, therefore MJ Abbott's work programme is split over two years. The first phase, carried out in early 2007 involved the construction of one full size pitch, Phase two and three will be carried out in 2008, and involves the construction of three pitches complete with track and field facilities, a Synthetic Pitch and MUGA. The natural turf works involve subsoil levelling, topsoil spreading, primary and secondary drainage, irrigation and cultivation & seeding. The artificial works includes for subsoil trimming, drainage, installation of sub bases, laying of synthetic surfaces, floodlighting and fencing.
Llandarcy Academy of Sport
MJ AbbottLimited have been contracted to construct three new outdoor sports fields at the academy. The project involves cut and fill earthworks, topsoil screening, drainage, forced sand slitting, soil amelioration and cultivation and seeding.
The works commenced in July 2007 and included grow in maintenance through to October. An MJ Abbott irrigation system has also been installed which consists of supply to a series of hydrants around the pitches and 2 mobile irrigators. The new fields form the first phase of the planned development which will see new pitches being constructed in 2008.
Motcombe Primary School - Dorset
MJ Abbott Limited was awarded the county council contract to construct a new football pitch at Motcombe Primary School. The project involves topsoil stripping, subsoil cut and fill, topsoil replace, primary drainage, irrigation, turfing and the installation of a timber perimeter fence. The company will maintain the pitch for 12 months.
Bishop Road Playing Field - Bristol
MJ Abbott Limited continued its relationship with Cowlin Construction, by completing the construction work to the Bishop Road Playing Field. The project involved topsoil strip, cut & fill earthworks, topsoil replace to outfield areas, importing and spreading 2,000 tonnes of new topsoil over the pitch, primary and secondary drainage installation, water attenuation tank system, cultivating and seeding. The complexities of this project included working in a very confined site area and importing thousands of tonnes of materials into an inner city site location.
